Golden Temple at Bylakuppe: A Namdroling Visitor Guide

By - Wooden Pearl

Golden Temple

The Golden Temple is part of Namdroling Monastery at Bylakuppe, near Kushalnagar. It is outside Madikeri, so allow for a separate journey when planning a visit from Wooden Pearl or another Madikeri-area stay.

Golden Temple

A living monastery

Namdroling was founded by His Holiness Penor Rinpoche in 1963. Visitors come to see the temple’s architecture and Buddhist art, but it remains a place of study, practice and worship. Give monks and worshippers space and follow the instructions displayed at the entrance.

Visit respectfully

The monastery’s visitor guidance asks for quiet behaviour in the temple and care around religious objects. Do not touch statues or paintings. Follow current footwear and photography rules, and ask before photographing people or a ceremony.

  • Confirm current visitor access and opening arrangements before leaving.
  • Dress respectfully and keep phones quiet.
  • Stay within areas open to visitors.
  • Allow time to look and learn without interrupting worship.

Plan the journey by area

If you are already travelling on the Kushalnagar side, consider whether Cauvery Nisargadhama fits your route. Check each attraction separately and leave time for lunch and the return drive. It is better to enjoy a few stops than rush between opposite sides of Coorg.
