Iruppu Falls (Irpu): Planning a Visit in South Coorg

Irupu falls

Iruppu Falls, also written Irpu or Irupu Falls, is near Kutta in the Brahmagiri hills of South Coorg. It is a separate excursion from the sights around Madikeri, so check the full driving route before adding it to your holiday.

Allow time for the journey and walk

Plan the drive, the approach on foot and rest breaks as parts of the same outing. Before travelling, confirm current opening arrangements, entry requirements and the condition of the visitor path. Guests with mobility concerns should ask about steps and walking distance rather than relying on photographs.

Waterfall paths can be wet even when it is not raining. Wear shoes with grip, keep children close and use only the designated route and viewing areas. Do not cross barriers or climb onto wet rocks.

Choose the day around conditions

Rain affects both the waterfall and the journey. Check local advice after heavy rainfall and be prepared to change plans if access is restricted. The aim is an enjoyable visit, not reaching the water at any cost.

  • Confirm access close to your travel date.
  • Carry water, rain protection and a bag for litter.
  • Respect local religious sites and visitor instructions.
  • Leave enough daylight for the return drive.

Keep your Coorg itinerary realistic

A South Coorg day should not be squeezed between several Madikeri stops. For a more local waterfall outing, read our Abbey Falls guide. Our first-time Kodagu guide explains how to organise sightseeing by area.
