Raja’s Tomb, also known as Gaddige, is a royal memorial site in Madikeri. Its domed structures offer a different perspective on Kodagu’s history from the town’s fort and temples. The official district guide identifies the memorials with the region’s former rulers, including Veerajendra and his family.

A heritage stop within Madikeri

Choose Gaddige if you enjoy architecture and local history. Take time to observe the buildings from the permitted visitor areas and read any information displayed on site. As a burial and memorial place, it calls for respectful behaviour even when visited as a sightseeing stop.

Check current access, opening arrangements and charges before leaving. Do not assume old photographs show every area that is open today.

Plan a manageable route

You can build a Madikeri heritage outing around Gaddige, Madikeri Fort and Omkareshwara Temple. Leave time to travel between them and take a meal break instead of treating the town as one continuous walking circuit.

  • Follow local signs and avoid climbing on monuments.
  • Keep noise low and leave the grounds clean.
  • Wear suitable footwear for outdoor paths.
  • Check photography restrictions before entering buildings.
