Raja’s Seat is a garden and viewpoint in Madikeri, overlooking the hills and valleys beyond the town. It is a useful stop for visitors who want to enjoy the landscape without planning a trekking day.
The story behind the name
The Kodagu district tourism guide records the local tradition that the region’s kings and their consorts spent evenings here. The name, often translated as “Seat of the Kings”, reflects that association. Today, the main appeal is the outlook from the garden.
Choose a visit around the weather
Late-afternoon light can make a visit especially rewarding when the sky is clear, but a visible sunset is never guaranteed. Mist and cloud can hide the valley. Check opening arrangements before planning an early-morning or evening visit, and do not rely on old fee or fountain-show timings.
Allow time to enjoy the garden as well as the viewpoint. Keep children close to barriers and check the available paths if anyone needs step-free access. Follow local parking and entry instructions, particularly during busy periods or after heavy rain.
Combine it with Madikeri’s heritage
Consider a town outing with Madikeri Fort, Omkareshwara Temple or Raja’s Tomb. Check the opening arrangements for each stop and leave room for meals and travel.
Abbey Falls is a separate outing outside the town centre. Add it only if the route and time available work for your group.
Fit the visit into a relaxed stay
For a two-night break, keep arrival day light, use the full day for your preferred sightseeing route and leave departure day flexible. If you plan a longer stop on the way home, check out first and confirm that the attraction lies on your onward route.
Wooden Pearl Homestay is at 1st Monnangeri, Galibeedu Post, in the Madikeri area. View our rooms and gallery, then contact us with your dates, guest count and meal preferences. Specific facilities and inclusions should be confirmed for the room you book.
