The Golden Temple in Madikeri, officially known as Namdroling Monastery, was established by Drubwang Padma Norbu Rinpoche in 1963. It serves as a center for Tibetan Buddhism and is one of the largest teaching centers of the Nyingma lineage of Tibetan Buddhism in the world. The monastery was constructed to provide a place for Tibetan refugees to practice their faith and preserve their culture following their exile from Tibet
